Stepper Motor Connections

I bought a stepper motor, a L298N Dual Motor Controller, and an arduino uno r3. The motor has four wires that stay together. The problem is that the controller has output A &, but my motor's wires don't separate. i'm not sure if I should cut them so they do separate or what

Take a photo to show what you mean by wires don't separate.

If you mean that the wires all connect up to a particular kind of connector..... then you have the option of cutting the wires away from the connector. Or you can buy a mating connector that allows you to connect other wires to the existing wires...... and the new wires can then go to the L298N.

If you mean that your motor is connected to a piece of ribbon cable the simplest thing is probably to separate a few centimeters at the end so that you can connect each wire separately.

If that does not make sense post a photo of the cable and a link to the datasheet for your stepper motor.

First things first, why are you using a stepper motor with a L298N board? Which stepper motor exactly?
What power supply?
