Stepper motor knob tutorial

I wanted to try the stepper motor tutorial found here: I have a ID31 stepper motor and a SN754410NE H-Bridge so I decided to make the bipolar version. I have set up the wirings according to the schematic:

The only difference is that I used a 250k potentiometer because I don't have a 10k one but I think this should not cause any problems. Power supply from the arduino +5V output is about 4.65 V and the motor is powered by an external 5 V power supply. In the code I set the step number to 48 which is the case for my motor:

However, the motor does not turn, no matter how I turn the potentiometer. The "L" and "ON" leds on the arduino are lit up. Any suggestions?

Hi, Divide the problem:

  • Use the stepper library to simply rotate the stepper maybe 100 steps in one direction, and 100 steps backward. Get that working first.

  • Read the potentiometer output and send it to the Serial Monitor and make sure you can get correct values.

  • Start putting it together..

Well all I had to do is wire the other 4 wires from the motor to the ground.
