New to small cnc. My machine X axis will just quit moving but controler keeps counting. Have already changed stepper motor and same thing. Run wires and changed driver chips. Any advice?

What make of CNC machine have you?
What software is used to control it?
And all the other things you have not told us.

Heidenhain makes nice CNC controllers - a bit on the expensive side, but nice. Just a guess, if the TO has one of these. Could have asked for Tomarc, too. Or LinuxCNC. Or whatever. As there's virtually no information, any guess is a good guess.
I was thinking of a Haas CNC machine myself, having seen a YouTube video about their manufacture. IIRC the bed had travel of about 1 metre and when the dial-test-indicator was run along it there was absolutely zero movement of the pointer.
