So, I do know of the advantages of a stepper motor and a dc motor. I also know about the disadvantages. The problem is I don't know which one to use when it comes to my project. So, basically my project is about turning a custom-built nut that is connected to the motor. That means having the ability to accurately control the distance that the motor travels. But I also want it to be precise and long-lasting. What should I use between the two?
A stepper would be an obvious choice give what you have told us.
What you HAVENT told us could also be important.
This "nut" that it is driving what else is connected to it as far as load ?
What is your power supply capability ?
Is any of it subject to adverse conditions ?

While you are at it, please explain what "long lasting" means! And what exactly is doing the long lasting? The motor torque? The motor as a brake? As long as power is available?
