Project done and am pretty much happy with the results 
With some serious reduction ratios, I could get steppers down to 0.5A / phase, so that single battery pack lasts for about 4,5h continous work.
Missing some screws and details (still in testing phase).
The best part of this project for me was the chellenge 
I learned a lot.
