Hi, I am a beginner to electronics and I have a simple question regarding my stepper motor and CNC shield. I bought two stepper motor sliders from Amazon, however the cap thing at the end of the motor wires (image provided to help explain what I mean) does not fit onto my CNC shield. I suppose the solution would be as simple as soldering male to female header pins onto the ends of my stepper motor wires, but I do not know how to solder. I usually experiment with things until it works, but I am worried I might damage my stepper motors again. Therefore, does anyone know of a solderless solution? Could I just insert four male to female wires into the cap thing at the end of the motor wires and attach those to the CNC shield? I have provided images to help explain my problem. I would appreciate any help, thanks.
What is on the other side of the stepper motor connector.
Can you pull the wires out of the plastic bit and plug the individual wires onto the header on the CNC shield? You might be able to free the wires by gently prying up the tiny tabs that hold them into the plastic plug.
That's a great suggestion. Thank you so much!
This is when a soldering iron is useful. cut the connector off, solder some 0.1" headers to the wires, with
heat-shrink over each wire to protect and mechanically strengthen the joints.
You are unlikely to find an off-the-shelf converter for these.
Don't forget to check the pinout is correct (always worth doing for any motor/switch/etc anyway).
