Still cannot open Arduino Software??? HELP

I have been running Arduino software on my laptop for a number of months now, all of a sudden, out of the blue, one day it did not run, I have been unable to use it since, I have tried all I know, and some more advice of the net, but nothing seems to work for me.

I have downloaded the latest version of the IDE from this web site, When I click on the Desktop ICON, up pops the Arduino Logo, the status bar goes through Initiating etc. it gets to starting, then it seems to stall for a few seconds then it disappears from my screen, with no sketch page showing.

I'm desperate now,I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop running windows 8, do I need help from Toshiba, my Laptop is only 5 months old.

is any java defination updated recently. if yes try to restore it.

which version of Arduino IDE you download . Please share us link.

make ensure when you connected device ; device manager being detecting arduino atleast
