Stk500 error message

Hi, yesterday everything was ok, today I get this error message, does anyone know what's going on, I am using an iMac desktop with OS, and a UNO R3

Remove any connections to pins 0 and 1 on your Arduino board. These pins are used for communication with your computer, including uploads. Connecting anything to these pins can interfere with uploads.

Make sure you have the correct board selected from the Arduino IDE's Tools > Board menu. Note that some boards have similar names, but are not interchangeable. Examples include "Arduino Uno" vs. "Arduino Uno WiFi" vs. "Arduino Uno WiFi Rev2".

Make sure you have selected the port of your Arduino board from the Arduino IDE's Tools > Port menu.

Sometimes the port will be labeled with the board name in the menu. Other times it will not. If you don’t know which port is your Arduino board, you can find it like this:

  1. Unplug your Arduino board from the computer.
  2. Select Tools > Port from the Arduino IDE's menus.
  3. Note the ports, if any, listed in the menu.
  4. Close the Tools menu. The ports list is only updated when the Tools menu is re-opened, so this step is essential.
  5. Plug your Arduino board into the computer.
  6. Select Tools > Port from the Arduino IDE's menus. - The new port listed in the menu is your Arduino board.

Hi, Great info, looks like your describing windows, I have a iMac on OS Big Sur, it's new to me, and I have not found a system like page yet.

No. All these instructions apply to any operating system.

I don't know what you mean by "system like page", but these instructions are for the Arduino IDE.

If there is anything not clear to you, just let me know and I'll be happy to explain.

Hi. I followed your instructions, same problem occurred, the next thing I did was to remove my external reset button, which was connected to Ground & Reset, hey presto it now works fine, downloading ok.
What I meant was I know my way around Windows system manager etc, to have a look at what com ports are available, I have yet to do the same with my new iMac. different system, obviously a different procedure.

I'm very glad to hear you got it working again.

In order to upload, the Uno's ATmega328P microcontroller must be reset, which activates the bootloader. So if you connect anything to the reset button, it might interfere with the reset circuit used to trigger that reset pulse.

Oh boy, I have the same problem. I have been using Windows from 3.1, and a reasonable amount of experience with Linux but have almost zero experience with macOS so I really struggle to accomplish even the most basic things on a Mac.
