Stop I want to get off!

Just bought an Arduino, wish they'd been around years ago!

Simple question here, I installed all s/w drivers etc fine, though it's a bit flaky on Vista. (What isn't) I ran the usual simple led blink worked fine. (Liar! syntax syntax syntax)

What I want to know is, on the IDE does the Stop icon stop the sketch? Or not - in my case, should it?

Stop doesn't do much except it stops the serial monitor if its on
