STP16NF06L mosfet

Hi all,

A quick question about reading MOSFET data sheets... with the STP16NF06L as a specific example.

I want to be sure that I can safely use this MOSFET as a switch with a 5v drain-source voltage, and a 12v drain-source voltage, using a 5v Arduino (or similar) [not 3.3v]

Datasheet is here: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1690175.pdf

Which table entries/graphs should I be looking at to be sure the MOSFET is "fully on" @5v when switching 5v? And if it's a graph, do you have a link to a resource which explains HOW to read said graph (so I can look at other MOSFETs & decide if they're suitable for my needs)?

Many thanks in advance.

PS: I've used several of these MOSFETs to switch 12v without any significant heat generation, although I did fry a couple when I first started playing with them, somehow.

The max Rds(on) is quoted for Vgs=5V. That means it will be on at 5V gate drive. That's the only
spec you need to look at for gate voltage. Don't be confused by the threshold voltage, its nothing
at all to do with switching on.

If a device only has an Rds(on) figure for Vgs=10V, you cannot assume anything less than 10V
is adequate.

Hi,
For the info of others reading this thread, relevant spec for STP16NF06L;
