Streaming Data to Computer via Bluetooth

I'm attempting to transfer real-time force data from an FSR to a computer in order to generate a real-time graph of the data. I'm using an Arduino Uno and the Bluefruit EZ-link shield.

The goal is to make the setup as simple as possible. This means that any bluetooth-capable computer should be able to pair up with the device and automatically start receiving data once a specific graph-generating program is opened. I won't have any other devices connected to the Arduino and I don't need to reprogram the Arduino sketch wirelessly.

I have a few questions:

  1. Is it possible to automatically connect a device to an Arduino com port?

As far as I can tell, this is the only way data can be transferred from the Arduino to other devices, but the only way to connect to a com port is to do so through the Arduino IDE.

  1. Do I need to use a software serial port, or can I simply use the direct serial?

  2. Is it possible to send data from the Arduino / receive data on the computer without connecting to the com ports?

I apologize for any obtuse misconceptions about bluetooth communication. Thank you for your advice!
