Suggestion: ANSI-Colors for the serial monitor

just some minutes ago I learned that terminal-programs like theraterm etc.
can show the text in different colors foreground and background.

Well this would be a very nice feature for the inbuild serial monitor too!

The Serial Monitor as it stands just display Serial Data and accepts data via a …command line. Can the Serial Monitor have the ability to Respond to Terminal Escape codes Ie Font Change Cursor position, Draw lines, change font colour. I realise that a external Terminal could be run but once the External Serial Terminal has taken control of the port, the uploading and download of code cannot be accomplished, Whereas the Serial Monitor looks to have controls to Disconnect automatically while code is uploaded. I would like this sketch: ```cpp void setup() { Serial.begin(57600); Serial.print("Hi There!"); Serial.print("\r..."); Serial.print("\nThere!"); } ``` to generate this output: ```text ...There! There! ``` rather than what we get today: ```text Hi There! ... There! ``` That is `CR` should move to beginning of line and `LF` should advance to next line. **Why?** This allows for more flexible debug output. A trace value can be rewritten to the same line (`Serial.print("\rValue=")`) rather than print on a separate line. **Would this cause any incompatibilities with previous versions? If so, how** **can these be mitigated?** Not likely. `Serial.println` uses the `CR`/`LF` pair for line endings and so would produce the same output as today. This is also inline with how `CR`/`LF` is defined and how most serial terminal emulators work.
