Super Newbie asking ambitious question

Hi All,
What a great place!

Question:
I would like to create 2 rings that I can wear. Each ring will have a button on its face. I'd like each button to send a signal to an Arduino that the respective button has been pressed.
1st problem is: How to send the signal? Would this be some kind of blue tooth transmission?
2nd problem: if I can figure out how to send a signal that a button was pressed how would I sent more information than just pressed/not pressed, e.g., which button was pressed etc.

Hope these questions are clear and I understand that this is pretty ambitious for a newbie but I have a background in programming and technology and I'm not afraid to put the study time in.
I guess I'm looking for some one to point me to the right resources to read through to start me off?

Thanks!!
MG

How big are the rings? Where are you wearing them (what part of your body)? Can you run thin wires from them to something in your pocket?

I was thinking of wearing them on my fingers. But really the goal is to have a wearable mobile physical interface. So the buttons could be part of a bracelet/gauntlet, or maybe embedded in to a vest/bandolier I suppose. The latter solution might facilitate the thin wires easier.
