Supplying a motor driver to drive a load

Can I connect a motor to a motor driver that is connected to a power supply with higher voltage than the motor rated voltage, whereby by changing the duty cycle I reduce the voltage to the rated voltage ?

Yes.

There are a lot of motor drivers on the market for the Arduinos available.

You can, but introduce a lot of factors that will probably catch you out and burn out the motor.

Just ‘do it properly’ and you don’t have to worrry !

Know that the heat created in the motor is raised by the power of 2. Double the voltage max PWM is 1/4, 25%.

What do you mean by double the voltage max PWM is 1/4 ?

Brushed DC motor voltage ratings are nominal and motors can be operated at above or below the nominal rating.

At significantly higher voltages, the motor lifetime is shortened, but it does more work in that time.

What if it was much higher than the motor rated voltage ?

Much shorter motor lifetime.

If You power a 12 volt motor driver with 24 volt don't use more than 25% PWM.
