Suspended member, blocking

A member who need not be named was recently suspended. I hadn't noticed until some other discussion reminded me…

Now the name will not '@', unless I am spelling it wrong, always a possibility.

What all are the implications of a suspension? Is it impossible to, say, find posts of hers, or mention her in my own or send her a PM to say, well, whatever?

I attempted to PM another member who also need not be named, I had before. This time it says she is temporarily (?) not receiving messages. Can it be told whether this is universal or the result of the member blocking @alto777? Her loss if so. :expressionless:

Try replying to an old PM.

@alto777:

There are two types of BAN that can be applied to a user ...

... they can be 'silenced', in which case they cannot take part in discussions, but they can probably receive MPs.

... or they can be 'suspended', in which case they cannot even log in.

As a "moderator" this is what I can do ... I don't know for "administrators" ... :roll_eyes:

I confirm that I have checked with a recently 'suspended' user ... as a 'moderator' I can find him with '@', as a 'user' I cannot. :roll_eyes:

It is still possible to find their posts. You can still go to the suspended user's profile (e.g., https://forum.arduino.cc/u/alto777/activity), or add their username to a search query (e.g., https://forum.arduino.cc/search?q=%40alto777).

Note that occasionally a user will request their account be anonymized. This causes their username to be changed to something like @anon57585045. In this case, the techniques I described above will not work for the old username, but they will if you know the anonymized username. However, anonymization is a separate thing from suspension.

Even if the username no longer appears in the convenience menu, you can still mention the user by writing it out fully yourself in the post.

The forum software does not allow sending personal messages to suspended users. It does allow sending PMs to silenced users.

Thank you, clear enough. Now back to FSMs and pull-up resistors. :expressionless:
