Swapping voltage regulator on a Arduino mega2560

I could not find the exact answer, but maybe it has been asked (many times) before, but is it possible to swap the 5V voltage regulator on a Mega2560 for, by example, a 78S05 2 Amps?

I have a project including a GSM/GPRS module and a LCD display, but together they draw too much power, because when the LCD is powered on and the GSM module tries to connect to the cell network, the Meda reboots itself along with the GSM module.

Removing the GSM module or the LCD works great, but I want them to work together :)

You can swap it - then you also need to swap the reverse polarity diode as it is only rated for 1A. Might be easier to just get a 5V,2A wallwart and connect to 5V header pin, with a diode from 5V (anode) to Vin (cathode) to avoid reverse driving the on board regulator. http://www.dipmicro.com/store/DCA-0520 Or bring in 5V to the barrel jack and jumper across the diode and the 5V regulator?
