switch distance

I am building a motor controller with Arduino as the brain. I want to mount the switch to control the up and down motion of the motor about 100 feet away from the arduinom using Cat5 wire. Without anything in between the switch and the arduino, how far away can the arduino "read" the switch? It will be a simple DTSP switch. Help?

why 100 ohm? (trying to learn)

Makes sense. thanks for explaining. Am an ameteur electrical engineer, and a poor one at that, so your explanation helps me.
Unfortunately, i know just enough to copy some schematics posted by others to make a H-bridge "trigger"ed by an arduino.
Am using an arduino because, i want it to read some limit switches, and control the speed of the motor to slow down and stop
at the ends of the travel.

thanks
