switchboard audio

Hello all,

well, i am completely new to this(Arduino) but i have read the tutorials and know how to work with leds and etc..( though i have made many electronic kits in my childhood and hopefully i have the logic for Arduino.

due to an event in our studio, i have proposed to make this thing to interact with people. basically the mechanism reminds me of the old switchboards. the ones they used to connect your phone through operator with other people whom were calling you. so the idea is to have such a switchboard which when you connect the pins (2). it starts playing voices that have been recorded previously and it simply plays the conversation between those 2 people and so on. like i have recorded voices of my colleauges and first pin ( person x) starts asking a fix question and second pin (person y) will answer that question! like if you change the second pin, other people( Z,W,P) will eventually answer the question.
so the visitors will interact with this machine/switchboard. i added an image to maybe make it more clear.

thank you all for the help.

Interesting project.
Did you have a question?

If I were doing this project I would start with an Uno and a WAV shield.Adafruit Wave Shield for Arduino Kit [v1.1] : ID 94 : $22.00 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits

Thanks for the link..

yes sorry, actually i was asking if anybody knows how to start! i know this is a silly question but it could be a challenge for everyone to try  just kidding.. i will really appreciate if anybody knows how to program this thing and practically how to start. if this is a very difficult task you can tell me and i will forget about it totally;-) but i will enjoy doing it anyway.

thanks

I was trained to use one of those type of switchboards, but only for a week in 1976, so I've completely forgotten everything about it!!
How many contacts has each plug got? It's 4 (tip and 3 rings), if I remember correctly.
How many sockets are there?
Do you also intend to use the switches?
The dial?
How is the sound going to be played? Through speaker(s), the headset or both?
How long will each soundtrack last?
Do you want the lamps to flash/light?
Do you want the bell to ring?
