I'm working on a microcontroller-based system that receive ECG signal from smartwatch in real-time, based on other data too like age and sex the system should give medical suggestions. I read about FDA ECG approved smartwatches brands which are six brands. Any idea how I can synchronise data from these smartwatches with microcontrollers especially while some brands have data access restrictions**?** Can someone explain bluetooth as well as wifi methods**?**
I search for similar ideas but not found yet as I didnot open source smart h watch has ECG sensor.
Thank you.
Don't let you be fooled: smartwatches provide pulseoximeter readings, not ECG. I've developed ECG systems for HRV (e.g.: https://www.vital-monitor.com/ ) for quite some time. When doing research and comparing a ECG with the said-to-be "ECG accurate" data it turend out that virtually all systems lie in creative ways.
@ bt protocol: Garmin, Zypher, Polar are all "opened up" aka the documentation of the prorietary parts are to be found on the net - or you can buy then and sign an NDA.
If the devices are ANT+ compliant, then you only need an ANT receiver and a profile decoder since HRV is output on one of the background pages. That should be doable with pretty much any Nordic microcontroller. Otherwise, most devices will have BLE as you noted, but I don't recall if there is a public characteristic for HRV. There probably is, but I just don't remember.
This is really not the place to be taught how to interface with BLE. Find a good tutorial, since the details can be important.
Useful, but I still need to send these data what ever it is.
"send" ?
Thank you very much.
Yeah, I need to send data from the watch to the microcontroller to do analysis on the microcontroller using sent data.
What's the budget?
Not much. Wahy can you do?
Nothing, you are on your own. I know what's down that rabbit whole.
When I was in the fitness industry, this would be about a $25,000 project to do the software.
You could be leaving money on the table ![]()
