Tactile Switch Terminology

Hi. Just ordered an arduino last friday, will be arriving on thursday.

Have a question about tactile switches.

The product in question is here (@digi-key):

I want a switch that will pass current while I'm holding it down, and then pop back up and leave the circuit open without force applied. I believe this switch is within the voltage and current ratings used by the Arduino, but I'm confused by the term "Off-mom". To me that would imply that the switch's function is to momentarily open the circuit, and then default to having it closed when released. This is the opposite of what I want, unless I'm misinterpreting the meaning of "off-mom".

Total newbie here, looking forward to any advice the veterans may have.

For the curious, I'm looking into building midi controllers, and one of the functions I would like to have is the ability to send simple on/off messages to control effects. I want a tactile switch so that this control could be used in a ryhtmic tapping motion.

"off-mom".

The off-mom is to differentiate it from a two position switch that is off-on as in a toggle switch or slide switch, etc.

Off-mom in this case means it's normally non-conducting and will conduct only as long as you hold down the switch (the momentary state). Sounds like what you want.

so I suppose the best way to interpret would be off/momentary-on.

Thanks Lefty!
