telecoms tool

Good day, I am starting a project to assist me with making a tool for work. I would appreciate you guys expert advice.
I work in the telecoms industry, on the copper network. I am looking to set up a device at my customer's premises, allowing me to remotely change what I have connected on the jack eg. adsl router or a telephone or a short circuit. Being able to remotely change what I have connected on the jack will help my to run tests before I return to my customer.

Thank You Kindly
Naeem

An you can get the permits required to plug such a device into your network?

How do you imagine you will control this device remotely?

Interesting idea. I used to manage a data communications network with modems that could be tested and configured remotely. Was a big advantage.

How do you intend to communicate with this device of yours? Do you intend to just make one remote and one local device?

There may be remote PBX devices that will fulfill your needs.

good day, yes one local device consisting of a router, telephone, tone, short circuit and a dis.
all bundled up together and connected on the same pair on (jack). My hurdle is how to switch remotely between these items.

remote device. first i thaught of sending a signal via sms from my cell phone to a gsm controller attahed to the local device, but a web based application allowing me to toggle between the items seems better.

You do what every other telephone system in the world does. They use tone sequences to control the remote device. And get tones back to verify the action was taken by the remote device. I suppose you hadn't considered any feedback from your remote device to ensure the command was received and acted upon.

Don't forget you also need the ability to set the remote device back to normal operation. It will also need a "time out" ability in case you create a problem situation and after some number of minutes, the remote device will automatically return to it's normal operation.
