I'm new to arudino hardware and software and want to start a progect. It asks for a LDR with a space bewteen the terminals but my LDR doesn't go that far so can i wire up the terminals to the breadboard and get the same effect

How much space (distance) do you need between the terminals and why does it matter ?
Which LDR do you have ?
Please post a link to whatever project you are following
If there is no space between the terminals of your LDR then you won't be able to use a breadboard.
But most LDR have quite long bendy wire terminals, so there is no problem. What type do you have?
Same effect as what?
Can you post pictures, what you say does not compute.
