testing lcd?

quick question

I found an old lcd and was wondering if I could test to see if it still works, without using my arduino (cause its fried  )... it has a backlight, if that affects your answer

First step is to identify the LCD driver chip and find out if it's an HD44780 compatible. I don't think you'll get very far in testing without some sort of microcontroller to drive it.

not even to see a flicker? alright... i guess im stuck for some time then

Believe it or not, it can actually be done. This 12 year old article explains how!
