This what you're after?

TFT LCD Identifier
Unknown LCD driver chip: C0C0
If using the Adafruit 2.8" TFT Arduino shield, the line:
  #define USE_ADAFRUIT_SHIELD_PINOUT
should appear in the library header (Adafruit_TFT.h).
If using the breakout board, it should NOT be #defined!
Also if using the breakout, double-check that all wiring
matches the tutorial.

As I said before I have no idea about any of this, do you have a link to that library?

LCD_ID_Reader.zip (2.94 KB)

Okay so I tried the attatched code.. the screen goes to a dimmed white with a black line on it and here is the serial monitor - Initializing LCD... Reading ID...0x0000 Loading LCD registers... Filling the screen... Done filling... If your screen filled red, you may be able to use the library at http://misc.ws

Sorry I’ve had a really important situation I had to nip off to… I will try it now

Omg you are such a legend! works perfectly now, thank you for sticking with me on this and being patient with me (sorry for my lack of knowledge) I hope you have a great end to your day :)

BTW, six hours really isn't very long to be debugging. Especially if the issue was well explained - I suspect the forum could have it figured out within 15 minutes.

A little patience and discipline goes a long way toward getting things solved!

Why not just mount your project in a box with a mirror?

I'm serious, BTW. If this display has firmware that prints characters in reverse, it might actually be intended to be mounted that way.
