The 1284P, a sleeping beauty on a $9 UNO size board?

I belive it's impossible to make it the same form factor as the Nano; the TQFP44 is simply too large if so, the board needs to be atleast 0.1" wider. And what about the additional pins the 1284 got?

There is also VQFN44 that might work. 0.5mm pin spacing, plus the substrate, are both a bit annoying for amateur assembly...

You don't HAVE to connect all the pins that exist. Most of the Uno-sized 1284 designs don't connect all the pins.
(Alas, this is where all the various different variations show up. Decided that you really want the second UART on D0/D1 and "Serial" connected only to USB, or similar...)


Other variations can be worked up.

Technically the Nano1284P exists. A UU module over the RadioNano can be the Nano1284P
