LINUX commands like FORK() or THREADS?

It's Linux, not LINUX, Arduino not ARDUINO, fork not FORK, and threads not THREADS.
Is there a way to write parallel functions/statements in ARDUINO ide ?
What is a parallel function? Please explain.
