the port is greyed out when i try to upload my code,
i am using a mega board,
it has atmel 16u2
previously working fine , then it stopped and not showing the port

The 16U2 is either damaged or has lost its firmware; you can try to re-install the firmware using Atmel flip or an external programmer and see if that solves the problem.

What was the project that you were working on (or the project before that) when it started failing.

Thank u for the reply.

I tried using the Atmel flip following YouTube tutorials but faced its own set of problems. the atmega port is greyed out under the ports in device manager.

the project is I am trying to build a basic tea dispenser and I can control the peristaltic pump using basic code.

If you followed the instructions (e.g. https://docs.arduino.cc/retired/hacking/software/DFUProgramming8U2/) and it did not work, your 16U2 is internally damaged.
