The Reverse Geocache Puzzle

Here's a little device I made recently as a present. It's a box that won't open until the recipient discovers the secret of where on the planet to move it.

A very beautiful and clever project, Mikal. And your story about it is wonderfully told.

Bravo!

I am at a loss for words. That is awesome beyond all belief.

Very cool idea!

This is an incredibly cool project, and an awesome gift. I love that the guy called you a bastard over it. Just brilliant!

This was inspiring!

Insanely cool

Fantastic project, I'm very impressed with the idea and the sentimentality of the gift. I think this is a first.

Good work, I'll invite you to my wedding

...just a word: WOW!

Clever! a truly cool gift, good job.

@TeamMCS -- If the wedding is in England, I will happily attend.
@Everyone -- thank you very much for the kind comments.

I just have to share the news of what happened next with this project. Last Thursday (the 17th) I gave a little 20-minute presentation about the "Reverse Geocache Box" over at the monthly Austin Dorkbot meeting. On Monday morning, a fellow from MAKE magazine posted an article about it on the blog. Around the same time, Hack-A-Day saw my posting here and posted an article. These were then picked up by Gizmodo and Engadget and finally... well you can read here to find out what happened next.

Thanks again for all the kind support. I really am indebted to all the smart and helpful people on this forum.

Well done! This project is awesome! Liked your blog posts on all the details on the circuitry. Truly a great job. The fake "voltage overload" feature you added is hilarious.

Cheers to you making the sparkfun front page (a few days ago, shifted to page 2 now...)

I am speechless. This is perhaps the the most amazing gift I have ever seen, and with a great write-up too!. You have reset the coolness bar to previously uncharted levels. Brilliant!
