The software won't download

Getting back to Arduino after a few years, and tried to DL the new Software.

Twice I did the contribute and DL from my PayPal Account, and after that failed, I tried the "just download" link several times. My paypal account shows that both contributions were made and paid from the account.

On MacOS 10.12.6

In all attemps, The zip file shows up in the download list on Safari and it says "Preparing to download", it then proceeds to download 150+ Mb of something at which time it stops sending data, but it never creates a file. The item in the DL list remains apparently active and never completes although no more data comes down. If I try again, the same thing happens.

It seems to only be this download, as I downloaded other stuff from other sites between and after these attempts with success each time.

Thanks for your support of the Arduino project!

Check to see whether you have enough free space on your hard drive.

Download folder is on a .5 Tb SSD where the system also resides. Checking this shows 175+ Gb of free space. Following the last try, I downloaded a 200 Mb ffile from a different site with no problems.

Activity monitor shows that the 150+ Mb was being downloaded every time but a file was never created. This is strange, as normally, the file is always created at the beginning of a download before the data is sent.

Maybe you have some security software blocking the finalisation of the download ?

Or when you download tell it to save to a place you have full permissions for.

I just did a test download of the macOS version of Arduino IDE 1.8.5 and it worked fine for me. It's ~150 MB so that indicates you're probably getting the full download, rather than halting partway through the download. The filename is arduino-1.8.5-macosx.zip.

I still haven't figured out the problem on this, I tried again 2 times after my last reply here and failed both. I then did a search for other sites having a copy of it and had no trouble at all downloading a copy from Filehorse. That worked perfectly like it generally does.

Probably a good idea to confirm the checksum of any file you get from other than the official download URL:
https://downloads.arduino.cc/arduino-1.8.5.sha512sum.txt
The name "filehorse" just makes me think of trojans.

You may be using an unsupported browser. I had this same issue downloading through safari but I switched to chrome and it worked.

I had this same problem using Safari and MacOS 10.13.4, the download would not complete just showed a progress bar and no file. So I used Firefox and got the download Arduino 1.8.5. Weird.
