It would be great to develop a "Thinking Cap" which would record how long someone spends thinking about a solution to their problem.
It would prevent you from posting another question until you had spent at least 3 hours studying the answers you have already been given and trying to figure out the solution yourself.
In the last few days I have made 2 or 3 suggestions that bounced straight back with "it does not work"
Alas I suspect if they cannot answer the post straight away they will just create a new thread.
All of this could probably be avoided if they had listed the things they had tried/done instead of just posting it does not work and then drip feeding the other stuff in later posts.
Yes, users of this forum, especially "the purity police and gurus", are just a pain. I especially like the ones using canned replies AKA "post your entire code using ..." or "read my post on basic such and such..."
I also enjoy reading the replies when OP is totally ignored and / or the "team" makes all the decision for the ignorant newbie.
It has been my (difficult) personal challenge to ignore such posts, but once in a while I just break down and reply / participate. Whoops...
I would suggest that every newcomer first post be automatically deleted when it does not conform to forum policy. That would teach them to bother this group and relieve poor overloaded administrators.
Your crystal ball may be able to fill in the missing bits. Unfortunately mine does not have this facility.
If the question does not even have the basic information to understand what the user is actually wanting, then it is necessary to used canned responses.
