Thoughts on a business idea - custom design FSR sensors?

Hi guys,

I'm an engineering student from Finland and I'm interested in starting a side business while studying. I'm looking to get some feedback from fellow Arduino and electronics enthusiasts regarding my business idea.

My idea is to start manufacturing custom shaped FSR sensors mainly aimed at electronics hobbyists and people developing prototypes of their products. During my school projects I've become familiar with force sensing resistors but more often than not I've needed a custom shaped FSR for my project. All the basic off-the-shelf FSR sensors are either square shaped, circle shaped or simply too small. Because of this I decided to start making my own sensors and I now have a specialized printer and other equipment to make custom FSR sensors in almost any shape and size.

I know FSR manufacturers provide custom shapes and sizes for their sensors but the cost of these custom sensors is a lot for a hobbyist or someone who just wants to quickly test out a product idea. The sensors I would produce wouldn't be as robust as their commercial counterparts of course and they wouldn't be intended for use in commercial products either.

Manufacturing the custom sensors is pretty cheap for me and I could sell them for 5 to 15 dollars a piece and manufacture as few or as many as the customer needs.

Keen to hear some thoughts and opinions - good or bad. Any ideas, etc let me know.

Thanks,
Niko
