Timer for Solid State Relay

I purchased a AC feeder for a cnc writing machine and added a solid state relay that is run from a 5v signal from the cnc. Everything works (startfeed/stopfeed) but the feeder sends 2 items instead of one. The 5v signal setting is turned down as short as the machine will go.

My idea is to use arduino between cnc and feeder to read the high 5 volt signal and run a command. Ex. read 5v. signal high for 2 second but only send 5v signal for 1 second.

Figured I would start simple and ask if this is the correct route to go.

Look at using a NE555 mono-stable to produce the short pulse every time it is triggered by the longer one. Much less fuss and bother.
