Damn - I wish someone would give me one of these devices!

Unless you get a better response here (you might also post about this over at the ElectroTech forum), your best bet would be to contact SICK with your question about this product. I am pretty certain that Q and Qa are both some kind of transistor outputs (but what their difference is, I don't know); MF seems like it might be some kind of programming (teach pendant?) input. L+ is probably power (then is M ground?) - but I really don't know.

Before even -attempting- to play around with this device, you might want to send SICK an email. Put it on the shelf, and ask them about the specifics of the cable connector, and what the pinout means. Let them know you are a hobbyist and how you received this item, and that you would be very grateful for any help you get (let them know what kind of project you might incorporate it into, as well). The worst you will receive is no reply; if you don't get a reply, you might try another email (just in case), or call them and ask to talk to someone on the phone. Sometimes, you might be surprised at what you can find out, especially if you get another "helpful electronics geek" on the other end.

Then again, you might find that you can easily get that information, but only if you sign up for a support contract or something else that probably costs a helluva lot of money...

thank for that cr0sh
i guess its a (modern) relic from an age
where companies didnt want sensors to connect to just anything.
