Toggle Switch - 3PDT

Hi, I am another new Arduino enthusiastic. I want to start my first Arduino project, but first i do research phase :). I want to use a Toggle Switch - 3PDT / http://www.sparkfun.com/products/11137 /

I want to use the switch like this: - for OFF position: - Arduino should know that the switch is OFF and to not make any digital pins read - for ON left position: it sould make 5v connection to a barcode scanner and send to Arduino a command to read digital pin 3 - for ON right position: it sould make 5v connection to a barcode scanner and send to Arduino a command to read digital pin 4 I need this because on left position Arduino should send a command to add the barcode in a database and on right position Arduino should send a command to delete the barcode in a database. Is posible my case? Maybe someone finds time to guide me with an example. I am new with electronics but prepare to learn new things.

I have searched the forum i found some guidance but do not fit my case : http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1263518901/all http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1253484315 http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1226896251

Thanks in advance

Hi,

First, I think you may not have the type of switch you need. It’s confusing.

A 3PDT (Three Pole Double Throw) switch often has only two physical positions. It has 3 switch sections of type “C”, which means that there is a common connection, a “Normally open” connection and a “normally closed” connection.

A switch with three handle positions is usually described as having a “Center Off” position. So you might, for example, find a switch described as:

" Single Pole Double Throw Center Off"

OR “On-Off-On” like this one: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10545

AND, some switches are “Momentary”, meaning when you let go they snap back to their original position.

Some manufacturers may even refer to (ready for this??): SPCO/SPTT Which really means “Single Pole Center Off / Single Pole Two Throws”.

Maybe read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switch for some of the variations.

Switches can be a very complex subject for what seems like a simple device.

Now can we get back to simple stuff like Microcontrollers?? :0
