totally new at Arduino...need help???

i have finally gotten all the diffrent components for the Robot. i am trying to make a robot that would walk on the wall (using magnets) and also should be able to follow a maze(on the wall and on the ground.).. i have made all the connections and circuiting , which i am pretty sure that its right...
list of all difrent components is as follow...

  1. Arduino Duemilanove (microcontroller)
  2. Arduino's Motor Shield (motor controller)
  3. 3, Sharp GP2Y0A21YK (Distance sensors Sensor)
  4. 2, 12V DC Gear Motors
  5. Power Supply
  6. And some LEDs

now it comes to programe the whole thing...i have tried running some little programs to just to play around with arduino...but when it comes to program the Arduino which has two motors (connected through the motor controller) and three sensors together .... to operate ur motors according to the signals by the analog sensors....i seriously have no clue...its just that i have never taken a programming course at school in my whole life...but now its coming all back to me...i am still very hopeful that i could finish it myself but that would just take me some extra time and study...

But in the mean time...i would be really thankful to anyone who would be kind enough to help me any way possible regarding that coding...if i could just get some help in the startup and then i am strongly optimistic about finishing it myself...!!!

But in the mean time, if i could just get any sample code (any programm code containing motors and sensors and their interfacing. ..)...so at least i could get an idea how to start...and then once i get this to start i am sure i could finish that code according to my particular requirements of the programm.
i basically just need a little push start...as i have already started studying some programming basics...

so yeah...it would be more than helping if someone could send me any coding that contains interfacing of two motors and three sensors prefarably.. ... or anything that would have some kind of logic that controls motors according to the relative output of the sensors...motors will turn ON or OFF according to the obstacle distance, recoded by three distance measuring sensors.

cheers
