TQFP atmega328 slow timing

I've purchased a surface mount ATmega328 in its 32-pin TQFP package. I am able to upload the tutorial blink sketch (http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/blink) by changing the arduino configuration file to expect a different signature. However, the LED blinks about fifteen times slower than it should. Does anybody have any idea why this happens?
