Following johnRob's line of thought start with one hardware item at a time and get it working. Do that until you get them going. For the CAN I use the mcp_can.h library, and have had great success. When you start on the CAN part you MUST have two nodes or the bus will not work (in loopback the error flags and the bus do not operate. Start with the send and receive files in the library. It was set up for the original MPC2515 CAN controllers which had a 16MHz crystal, if you have a China one it probably has a 8 Mhz crystal. Those are easy to change in the setup part of each programs. With both modules terminated (if not terminated it will not work) it may work first shot. Let us know how you do, have fun and good luck.
