Transceiving audio over 2.4Ghz

Hi there!

My hobby happens in a very noisy environment, but I need to talk to my partner. When we talk, we always have to scream and look at each other. It would be much easier if we could hear each other better.

So i thought a lot how we could communicate better. Cool would be if we both have a headset on and just hear the other ones microphone (no push to talk). Surprisingly, such a system is very hard to find. The closest are the NFL coach communication systems, which are made for larger groups and cost a fortune. Then come the bluetooth motorcycle intercom systems. But I fear that, while looking at each other talking, we would get a strange feeling because of the lag (I imagine). Also it seems that one would have to create a strange mini-usb to 2.5mm adaptor if you dont want to use the helmet headsets (which isnt possible since we are not wearing helmets).
So I thought about using a 2.4Ghz system. Could this be possible? The quality doesnt need to be better than telephone, but it needs to be 2way. Or do you have other ideas?

Thanks!

How about a couple of cheap walkie talkies on different channels?
I can't see that an Arduino could improve on that solution for price or audio quality.

Thanks! The more I think about it, the more I realize I wont be needing a microcontroller.

Does anyone have experience with something like this?
