Hey, I built a circuit using a transistor (which is rated more than high enough for the project) with a resistor and diode. The circuit seems to work fine as I get a voltage reading from it but right when I attach the motor, the voltage drops to 0. Any ideas on what might be the problem? Thanks!
I've attached the circuit diagram as well.
I've attached the circuit diagram as well.
And their i was expecting a schematic, not a Fritzing pile of crap that shows very little. Where are you measuring this voltage that drops to zero?
How much current does your motor take?
Can you run it if you directly connect it to the power supply?
What is the part number of that three legged device?
And you should post diagrams like this
Where are you measuring this voltage that drops to zero?
I'm measuring the voltage at the wire ends that meet the load.
How much current does your motor take?
About 750mA considering the lol load on it.
Can you run it if you directly connect it to the power supply?
Directly connected to the power supply it runs perfectly fine.
What is the part number of that three legged device
The part number for the transistor is lm317.
The part number for the transistor is lm317.
That is not a transistor it is a voltage regulator, you can not use that part to turn on and off a motor like this.
At 750mA you need a logic level FET.
