It shouldn't have. The TRIACs aren't controlled from their proper pin.
Please don't cross-post - comments about a thread should be on that thread only. I also suspect you've not followed that thread to the end where a corrected circuit is shown.

I have, and was wondering if this ever worked that way.
And I couldn't avoid cross-posting, as I couldn't post there, it refused to let me. So I had no other way.
