Triggering sound with arduino uno (need help)

Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to arduino and electronics in general. I'm working on an art installation for an end of year show and wanted to use IR sensors to trigger audio and play it through large speakers. I have an arduino uno r3, I've checked on the internet about various ways of doing thing ie, using a WTV020SD-16P Music Module and Sparkfun MP3 trigger. If I can get any information as to a simple method to achieve this, it would be much appreciated.

Forgive me if there is not enough information to warrant a response. I'm a tad inept at this sort of this, but am desperate to learn.

Thanks.

'Large speakers' would suggest that you'll also need an audio amplifier.
Are you playing the sounds to a football stadium, a living room or something in between?
In other words, how large is large and how much sound power do you need?

I would suggest using the Adafruit Wave Shield. It has built in volume control, SD card reading/ writing abilities, standard audio jack output and it requires no external components. To top it all off, there are premade libraries for it that make interfacing to it a real snap. If you are driving large speakers you are going to need an external amplifier but if they are small, around 4 inches or so max, it shouldn't have a problem driving them. BTW, I am in no way affiliated with Adafruit, I just have had good experiences with their shield.
