Trouble finding Yun after configuring first wireless connection

I am having trouble finding my Yun after configuring it to connect to wifi for the first time. I get the impression from the Getting Started Guide that once the Yun connects to a wifi network and then I also connect my computer to this network that it should be accessible in at least two ways: 1. via http://arduino.local, and 2. From the sketch manager the Yun should be listed with its name and IP address under Ports. Unfortunately, I cannot access the Yun by either of these two methods.

I have looked at the client list on my router and did manage to find the Yun, but it does not have a name. I can connect to the Yun by punching in the IP address into a web browser, but why can't I connect via http://arduino.local and why can't I see my Yun from the Ports menu?

Thanks!

Are you using windows? If so, have you installed bonjour printing services and double checked you've opened port 5353 UDP on your firewall?

The whole setup is working now and I'll explain what I think was happening below.

I am using Windows and made sure the bonjour printing services was installed and the 5353 UDP port was not being firewalled.

I think the problem I was having was two fold. First, it seems that if I have the Yun connected through the USB to my computer then I cannot access the Yun through a web browser by using the arduino name or through the sketch IDE via IP address; wierdly I can connect using the 192.168.1.X style IP address. Stranger still, I can connect to the Yun through a web browser using the arduino name and upload sketches via the IP address if I use a computer connected to the network, but not directly connected to the Yun. Has anyone had a similar experience? What is happening when I type http://arduino.local into a web browser? How does the router know what this means?

Second, I believe the Yun was also too far away from my wireless router to communicate effectively. Does anyone know the stated range of the chip antenna? Once I moved the Yun closer to the wireless router everything started to work.
