Hi All
Having trouble getting my windows computer to talk to my Arduino Uno. Keep getting this message when uploading my sketch.
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\.\COM1": The system cannot find the file specified.
help please probably just a rookie issue.
You need to select the COM port of your Arduino from the Tools > Port menu.
Thanks for the tip I cant choose the port it wont open up but at the bottom of the interface has a message Arduino/Genuino Uno on COM1
If your computer has a normal DB9 or DB25 COM port anywhere then it is unlikely you have the UNO on COM 1
Could you supply a pic of the board especially around the USB connector ?
Or a link to where it was purchased ?
OS and type of USB ports would also be great info to have.

That's just the default setting; it does not mean that the IDE detected an Arduino on COM1.
Do you see other ports in the menu?
What does the device manager say? Any yellow triangles?
Is this an original with 16U2 'USB' chip? Or a clone that might have the CH340 'USB' chip? In the latter case, you need the driver.
