TTGO T-Beam GPS Location

Hello everyone,

I am trying to build a GPS tracker (multiple) but i've got a few questions.

First one is. Can I make it so that my receiver only receives my send packets? If my neighbour is doing the same I dont want his packets on my receiver.

Second one, can I encode my messages so that no one can see my gps location if they receive my packets?

And the last question: Can I receive multiple packets at once? I've got the board below as my receiver:

Thanks in advance

  1. You can't. Put a unique ID into your packet and reject any that don't have that ID. Or use a different frequency.
  2. Yes, you can encrypt the data.
  3. No. If you have questions about a particular product, post a link to it.

I can answer some of the questions;

Can I make it so that my receiver only receives my send packets?

If the neighbour sends the packets at the same frequency and LoRa settings that you are using, then you will receive them. You can then choose to ignore them.

Second one, can I encode my messages so that no one can see my gps location if they receive my packets?

There are encryption libraries for Arduino.

Can I receive multiple packets at once?

No.

Thanks for the quick answer,

Could I make it so that the receiver transmits to every gps node 1 by 1 and that they reply with their gps location or will that drain the battery of the t-beam

This is the t-beam i've got

Yes, and yes.

Yes. In this Library;

In the 'Reliable' folder there are example programs of one node sending a request to another for it to provide its GPS location. The receiver of the request does not actually have a GPS attached, it just returns a test location.

As written the test program can request the location of up to 256 numbered nodes, but it would be easy to modify for more.

But will that drain the battery of the T-Beam quick?
Could i use it for 24 hours on 1 18650 2200mah battery?

Probably.

The receivers would need the LoRa device to be powered all the time @ circa 12mA, but the ESP32 could be put to sleep and be woken up when the LoRa device receives a packet.

The GPS will on a TTGO will have a current consumption of circa 50mA if powered all the time.

You could run the GPS in 'hot fix' mode and as long as you can wait an average of circa 20 seconds for the GPS to power up and get a fix, the GPS would use circa 80mAhr in a 24 hour period. But for that you would likley need to fit a much better GPS antenna than the pathetic tiny thing provided with a TTGO.

And what would happen if I create 3 receivers, will all the receivers get the message or only 1 receiver?

If the receivers are listening, they should all get the message.
