Turn off (NEO-6M) GPS "fix" LED?

When the GPS (NEO-6M) is searching the LED is solid red. When It has a fix, the LED is blinking. The problem is that the LED is very bright and a blinking LED gets rather tedious.

Can I turn it off and have it only active when I want it to be active?

A soldering iron will turn it off, but hard to turn it back on.

heat shrink, or nail polish, or hot glue, or RTV...

Its actually the timepulse LED, it indicates timesync status.

You can change the period of the timepulse, and its dutycyce, whether you can set the duty cycle to 0 and the LED is off I dont not know.

Datasheet for the GPS has the details.
