Ok, so this may sound really, really stupid, but that is only because I am new to electronics. How can I convert four wires into two so I can plug them into my arduino. Like go like this.

Have you heard of breadboards? They make it really easy to wire up basic stuff without soldering. You can score one on ebay for cheap.
They're a bit unreliable, but if you're not comfortable soldering (which I assume is the case, otherwise you'd just cut up some jumpers and solder something up), they're a great way to start making stuff until you are.
Without know what the 4 wires are its impossible to say, but the answer probably involves
a mini-breadboard.
