Two way communication NodeMCU-Appinventor

Hello everyone

I've made a project with a NodeMCU to cotnrol my lamp with my phone using Appinventor. This works fine but i'd like to have the lamp sending data back to my phone (Lamp is on/off). I really need this feedback because there's is no way the app knows if the lamp is on/off when there are two people controlling the lamp or after power loss etc.
I've looked online but I don't find information on two way communication with a NodeMCU and Appinventor. Is there someone who can help me on my way? Maybe I need to use another interface, let me know!

Thank you in advance!

Miel

@mielprovoost , your topic has been moved to a more suitable location on the forum. Installation and Troubleshooting is not for problems with (nor for advise on) your project  See About the Installation & Troubleshooting category.

No experience with app inventor and minimal with esp. One way that I can see is to e.g. let the NodeMCU send a message on a regular basis over the connections with the status of the lamp. Or let the Android app query the NodeMCU on a regular basis to get the status of the lamp.

It will probably help others to help you if you can provide the codes (don't forget code tags for the NodeMCU code; use the circled button in below image).

That's the plan but also the problem  I can't find a way to send data from the NodeMCU to the app. The other way around works perfectly.
