Type of Wireless Communication for Video Analysis *Quadcopter-to-PC*

Hello,

I want to send video data from my camera which is placed on my UAV-Quadcopter to my PC to analyze the image via OpenCV (entirely new for me).

Which type of communication should i use to send the data/images from my video footage to my PC and analyze it ?
The distance from the UAV-PC will be at 3km maximum.

I was going to use FPV (5.8Ghz) but the receivers have analog output , how would i process/use analog signal ?

Thank you.

What has this got to do with Arduinos?

You won't get that kind of range with 5.8 Ghz. You'll be lucky to get 100 yards unless you're in the desert.

I have a 5.8GHz 600mW transmitter on my Quad that is good for 2500 meters and some report even more.
// not Arduino related, just wanted to clear that up

That's good feedback but can you describe the terrain ?

Search Youtube for "immersionrc 5.8ghz test flight", "immersionrc distance test" etc. All kinds of terrain.

Ok I can see why you got such a good range. There's absolutely nothing between your tx and rx. It might as well be in a desert.
My experience was around trees so it was a poor terrain for line of sight.

Terrain, well mostly buildings.

Most who sell fpv equipment at 5.8Ghz claim an effective range of 2miles and above. And you are telling me i will get less than 100m ?

That's exactly what i was going for.

I dont really know how i will "grab" the analog signal video.
Many suggest: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036VO2BI/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00
But this one records it, i wont actually have a real-time video right ?

I also read that XBee-PRO 802.15.4 have a long range but their data rate (256 Kbps) is probably not meant for video transmission.

This may be of interest

I used to have a video capture card in my tower also but never used it.

If you look at the q and a for that item someone asked about live streaming and the answer was yes.

Are you using one of those hand made antennas for your receiver ?(looks like a flower, about 6 inches in diameter)

So basically the device "converts" the Analog signal to digital. I even found fpv receivers that had digital output, wouldn't that suffice or do i need this device as well?

I haven't bought any equipment yet. Do these handmade antennas offer better results/less interference than the normal ones?

Fpv reciever with digital output, what sort of digital output ?
Mp2 or 4 should work.

Antenna , one of the problems when working near buildings is reflected signal degrading the picture.
Pointing a directional antenna at the tx reduces this while imcreasing signal to noise.

You may find better answers elsewhere, this forum is mostly dedicated to arduino related topics.

Way better. I'll ask my friend who is a professional Quadcopter pilot who tests flight control systems for companies that make them for quadcopters.
