Ubuntu cannot open OS , also freezes

If you have the disk space on your Windows drive, take a look at wsl (Windows Subsystem for Linux). Install WSL | Microsoft Learn

Takes about 10 Gb, fast and easy to install, and works like a charm. It is trivial to move files between the two systems.

I've been using Ubuntu, running in a command line terminal window, for some pretty large computational projects, with full graphics compatibility and have had no problems that I can recall.
