Sorry for the long delay in replies , Ubuntu Pc is at home and I can only test after work.
If it freezes again I will try.
smart ... did not work when booted from ext drive , command not found.
Also I see in the DISKS screen the 3 dots top right corner that Smart... is greyed out.
